Ingredients
½ cup (100g) sugar
1 stick (100g) butter, softened
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup (110g) all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
Red, orange, yellow, green, and blue food coloring
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
2. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
3. Fold in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4. Divide batter into five bowls and tint each with food coloring.
5. Layer colored batter into mugs, one spoonful at a time.
6. Microwave each mug for 45–60 seconds, until the top is set.
7. Cool for one minute, then top with cream cheese frosting or whipped cream.
Notes
Every microwave cooks differently—start with 45 seconds and add in 5-second bursts.
Do not overmix colors for a clear rainbow effect.
Serve warm for the softest texture.
Use gel food coloring for bright layers.
