Description
This rich and gooey Chocolate Lava Cake Mug Recipe is a 5-minute dessert made right in the microwave! With cocoa powder, butter, and chocolate chips, it’s fudgy, molten, and irresistible — the perfect single-serve indulgence for any chocolate lover.
Ingredients
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3 tablespoons milk (any kind)
1 egg
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon water
Instructions
1. Whisk flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together in a large microwave-safe mug until evenly combined.
2. Add melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir well until smooth and there are no dry spots left at the bottom.
3. Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the center of the mug. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of water over the top of the batter without stirring it in.
4. Microwave for 1–2 minutes, depending on your microwave’s power, until the edges look set and the center appears glossy and slightly wet.
5. Let the cake rest for 5 minutes before enjoying. The center will continue to set, creating that gooey, molten texture.
Notes
• For a no-egg version, replace the egg with 1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt or unsweetened applesauce.
• Want it healthier? Use coconut oil instead of butter and stevia or honey instead of sugar.
• For extra indulgence, place a square of dark chocolate or caramel candy in the middle before cooking.
• Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for the perfect finishing touch.
• Don’t overcook! The magic of this Chocolate Lava Cake Mug Recipe is the molten center.
