How to Make a Hot Cocoa Mug Cake in Minutes

A warm, cozy vanilla-spiced hot cocoa cake in a mug that’s rich, soft, and ready in just one minute.

  • Total Time: 6 minutes
  • Yield: 1 mug cake

Ingredients

Scale

¼ cup all-purpose flour (30g)

2 Tbsp granulated sugar (25g)

¼ cup hot cocoa mix (45g)

¼ tsp baking powder (1g)

Pinch fine salt (<1g)

¼ cup hot water (60g)

2 Tbsp vegetable or canola oil (28g)

¼ tsp vanilla extract (1g)

1 Tbsp milk or dark chocolate chips (12g)

Instructions

1. Whisk together flour, sugar, hot cocoa mix, baking powder, and salt.

2. Add hot water, oil, and vanilla; mix until smooth.

3. Pour into a 12 oz microwave-safe mug and top with chocolate chips.

4. Microwave for 60 seconds; test center, and cook in 15-second bursts if needed.

5. Let cool for 2 minutes; top with whipped cream or marshmallows.

Notes

Use a 12 oz mug for best results.

Microwave wattage affects cook time (600–1200 watts).

Add cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm vanilla-spiced twist.
